On November 4th 2016, IICA and IFPRI hosted a seminar titled "The Present and Future of Agricultural Mechanization in Latin America." The objective of this seminar was to analyze global trends and the current situation of agricultural mechanization in Latin America, with the aim of identifying factors that limit its use in agriculture and proposing possible actions to improve its adoption, particularly among family and small-scale agricultural producers. The seminar featured perspectives from experts and representatives of producer organizations, agricultural machinery manufacturers, and agricultural service providers. Key findings included the low penetration of mechanization in Latin America compared to other regions, the need to improve infrastructure and service coverage, and the importance of adapting machinery to different topographies and production systems. The seminar emphasized the potential for knowledge sharing and policy advocacy to promote sustainable mechanization and better support small and medium-scale farmers in the region.
